The DRAM Awards, a highly established awards ceremony for the Scottish licences trade, was changing it’s business model from being business focused to consumer focused. The decision was made to re-brand the awards to The Scottish Bar and Pub Awards. The DRAM asked us to create an online voting system that would allow consumers to vote for their favourite bar or pub within 14 different categories.
The new awards, held in August 2015, featured a summer festival theme.
We used jQuery to build a fully responsive bespoke voting web-app that allowed consumers to register their votes online with minimum effort. We used CSS3 animations to help bring the page to life, as well as created consistent branding media for Facebook and Twitter.
The web-app includes an admin section that allows staff to view the results in real time.
We also built a ‘nomination link tool’ that enabled bars and pubs to create their own custom voting link that could be shared on their website and social media outlets.
During the 10 weeks the voting was open, the new web-app helped increase votes by 600% compared to the previous year and had accumulated over three thousand shares on social media!
